Fall Schedule for First Baptist Church

Wednesday, September 3, we will be serving our Wednesday night meals starting at 5:30, with Awana following at 6:30. Youth Prayer time at 6:15 and Youth time at 6:45. Adult Prayer meeting at 7:00 followed by Choir practice at 7:45.

Runnels County Appraisal Review Board to Meet

The Appraisal Review Board of Runnels County will meet at 9:00am Friday, August 29th, at 406 Hutchings Avenue in Ballinger. On the agenda:
* Review and approve corrections to the 2007 and prior appraisal records such as late filed homestead exemptions.
* Hear and determine timely-filed taxpayer appeals in the District for all matters permitted by the Texas Property Tax Code.


Annual Ballinger Garage Sale Nears

The good folks at the Ballinger Chamber of Commerce remind you that the Ballinger Annual Garage Sale is coming up soon, Saturday, September 13th. Sales will start at 8:00am and go until who knows when.

You'll want to get on the map so for more information, stop by the Chamber office at 700 Railroad or call 325-365-2333. Maps will be available at the Chamber of Commerce.


County Commissioners Adopt Budget

Runnels County Commissioners met Tuesday morning and adopted their budget for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. The budget amount is $5,482,365.

Commissioners also voted on the proposed tax rate of .67320 per $100 valuation which is a 5 1/2 cent reduction from last year.

Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 9:30am this Thursday, August 28, to hold a Public Hearing on a proposal to increase the total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll.


Best Fried Chicken Coming to Town

Hear Ye Hear Ye, The Queen has been dethroned! By order of the crown, the heir-apparent is.......a chicken?? Yes that's right, "Best Fried Chicken" is coming to town. The city of Ballinger gladly welcomes the Staggs Family and "Best Fried Chicken" which will reside in the former Dairy Queen location. Applications for employment are currently being accepted.


Cheryl Buchannan is State ATPE Officer

New local, state and region officers for Association of Texas Professional Educators for the 2008-2009 terms are pictured. Cheryl Buchannan (center) of Ballinger Jr. High will serve as State ATPE Treasurer.  Also pictured are Cindy Jamison, who will serve as Coleman County local unit President, and Sarah Beal, who will serve as Region XV ATPE Director, both of whom teach in Coleman.  The three teachers attended the state ATPE convention held in April. Sarah Beal and Cindy Jamison assisted with Cheryl Buchannan's campaign at the state convention.


GED and Adult ESL Classes

I am teaching GED and Adult ESL classes at the Elementary on Tues. and Thurs. nights from 6-9pm. Classes will start on Sept. 2nd and students will be expected to complete 60 hours before taking a progress test. There are exceptions to this rule that will be discussed during orientation. If you haven't finished high school and are 18 or above, or you would like to speak and write English, call Debra Gleghorn at Ballinger Elem. 325-365-3527 ext.3038. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested, but need time to find a sitter for your children, as child care is not provided. I will hold a place open for you until Oct. 1st, if you have not shown up by that time ,then the next person will take your place.


Ballinger Elementary School - Two Open Houses!

Ballinger Elementary will be having two open house nights this year. The first night is Wednesday, August 20th for grades PK-2 from 6:00-7:00pm. The second night will be Thursday, August 21st for grades 3-5 from 6:00-7:00pm.


Drop Off Station for Wise X-Press Dry Cleaning

Apples-n-Spice Florist is now a drop off station for Wise X-Press Dry Cleaning & Laundry in Coleman. The company Wise X-Press has state of the art, new equipment. They guarantee a one day turn around. Drop your clothes off by 2:00 p.m., get it back after 2 p.m. the following day. All your clothes are insured, if there is a mistake, Wise X-Press will make it right.


Jr. High Orientation and Open House

Jr. High Sixth grade orientation is set for Friday, August 22nd from 6:00-6:45pm.  Open House for all Jr. High students is from 7:00 - 7:45 that same night.  

Following Open House on the 22nd, at 8:00pm, an open forum will be held for parents to ask questions regarding the Apple laptops the students will be getting.   Mr. Mike Carter, principal of Ballinger Jr. High, will be conducting that meeting.

First day of classes, Monday, August 25th.
