The Ballinger Girls Powerlifting Team traveled to Corpus Christi to compete in State Championship Action.  Ballinger Lady Cat Lifters placed 4th place as a Team out of 40+ 2A girl teams competiting.  Leading the Way with firt place and Stae Champion in the 148lb class Angelica Fuentes with a 1025lb total.  She broke several longtime weight class records for the squat r with 440lb squat and broke the bench record with a 225lb bench and set the Total pound record for her weightclass with 1025lbs lifted.  3rd place in the 198lb class with a 980lb total was Rebecca Simpson. 6th place in the 165lb class Madison Watkins with a personal Best Total of 810lbs. 10th place in the 105lb class was Tiana Sanchez with a 560lb total.  Im proud of all of the girls for being fearless among 500+ girls from 1A 2A and 5A schools that competed that day and the very strict judging of each platform which little room for error in our technique for each lift.  Angelica is Ballingers First Powerlifter to capture a State Championship for any gender and should be the first of a few more future state champion girls to come.  This Saturday will be Boys State Competition in Abilene TX at the Taylor County Expo Center lifting begins at 9am..Auggie Woodruf and John Cuellar will be striving for Gold and title State Champion.  Admission will be 5$ and there will be concessions for food and tee shirts.  Come support our local lifters as they represent Ballinger.

The Ballinger Boys Powerlifting Team traveled to Sundown Texas to compete in Regional action among 50+ other 1A-2A schools in West Texas.  Ballinger had 9 boys qualified to compete and came away with the Regional Championship (first place) with 19 points and 2 state Qualifiers Auggie Woodruff and John Cuellar.  
Coach Johnson was named Coach of the year for Region 1Division 3 as well.  
Leading the way with his 2nd Regional Championship and Setting numerous records in his weight class was Auggie Woodruff with a 1710lb total.  He broke his record set last year for the squat of 620lbs with this years 700lb Squat and breaking the bench record with a 450lb bench press and then the Total pounds lifted for his class at 1710lbs.  He was the Outstanding lifter for the heavy platforms.  John Cuellar placed 2nd in the 198lb class with  total of 1430lbs which qualified him for State competition. Sean Gonzales placed 4th place in the 123lb class with a total of 885lbs. 6thplace in the 148lb class with a personal best total of 1075 Clayten Crabb.  6th place with a total of 1230lbs Daniel King.5th place in the 165lbs class Willie Collins with a total of 1215lbs and and 3rd place with the total of 1215lbs Sean Schaefer both totaled the same with another lifter with Sean weighting the lightest to take 3rd place.  5th place was Jacob Daniels in the 275lb class with a total of 1395lbs. 6th place with a total of 1200lbs Steven Kirk in the 181lb class.  It was a good feeling to win the Regional Championship as a team especially after coming up short the last two years by a couple of points.  I'm glad for the 3 seniors that they will go out as Regional Team champs. Everything didn't go as planned but my kids fought hard to get the necessary lifts they needed to place as best they could.  Out of the 9 boys that qualified, there will be 6 returning..5 Sophmores and 1 freshman.  The guys all understand what it takes to succeed and are extremely motivated to Prepare for the future...The Girls are competing in Corpus this Friday Morning at 8am..Rebecca Simpson, Tiana Sanchez, Angelica Fuentes, and Madison Watkins..

The JV Baseball game against Wall on Friday has been rescheduled for Saturday at 10:00 am. The game was rescheduled due to the fact that Wall does not have lights on their field which prevents us from playing Varsity and JV both on Friday.

The Ballinger Lady Powerlifters traveled to Mertzon TX to compete in the Division 3 Region 1 Championships.  The Lady Cat Lifters placed 2nd out of 46 school represented.  Leading the way with a total of 1055lbs in the 198lb division Rebecca Simpson with first place and Regional Champ.  Rebecca broke and set the record for all three lifts in her weight class with 455lb Squat 200lb bench and 400lb Deadlift.  She was Top Deadlifter for the Heavy platformsShe is my first girl to Deadlift 400lbs.  First Place and Regional Champ along with Top lifter in the Light-division with a total of 1050lbs in the 148lb class Angelica Fuentes.  Angelica also broke and set the records for all three lifts with a 465lb squat 225lb bench and 360lb deadlift.  Angelica and Rebecca are my first two girls to break 400lb Squat and 450lbs squat and 200+ bench press.  Madison Watkins set a personal record total of 795lbs in the 165 lb class with a  2nd place standing at Regionals.  Tiana Sanchez placed 4th place in the 105lb class with a total of 580lbs.

Kaylin King was unable to finish competitionbut has gained valuable experience for next year to come. Rebecca, Angelica, Tiana, and Madison all Qualified for State Competition in Corpus Christi March 14th.  Im pleased to be coaching such fierce and hard working girls that are not afraid to put in the effort of becoming better at their craft.  Next up for the Powerlifitng Team is Boys Regionals in Sundown Texas.
