A bipartisan effort brings home the bucks.
In the latest round of budget negotiations, the House is agreeing with the Senate to give UF Health $1.5 million in operating funds, money that will help Jacksonville’s safety net hospital starting in July.
The money will be routed through the Agency for Health Care Administration. It will support indigent care, which the hospital is required to provide and does so amid persistent deficits over the years.
UF Health stabilized its financial position last year according to Fitch, actually running at a surplus as of November 2025. But the agency’s rating is contingent on the hospital continuing to have local and state support in capital expenditure spending, which is separate from the operations budget but still illustrative of the institution’s near-future needs.
It had 94 days cash on hand as of FY 2025, which is above the 60 day mark Fitch sees as the absolute minimum.
Joe Mobley of The Florida Group lobbied for the support this year, which was carried by Senate Democratic Leader-Designate Tracie Davis and House Speaker Pro Tempore Wyman Duggan.
