TOPEKA, Kan. (KWCH) – Gov. Laura Kelly has issued an event proclamation to prepare Kansas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, activating the disaster response and recovery portions of the Kansas Response Plan.
While the matches in Kansas City are set to be played on the Missouri side of the state line, Kelly said bordering Kansas counties are expected to host team accommodations, practice facilities and fan-related activities, including fan fests.
Kelly called the World Cup a “once-in-a-generation event” and said the state anticipates increased demands on public safety, transportation and security agencies as planning ramps up ahead of the tournament.
