LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska softball is preparing for its eighth trip to the Women’s College World Series and its first appearance in Oklahoma City since 2013.
The No. 4 Huskers earned their spot in the WCWS after sweeping Oklahoma State in the Lincoln Super Regional last weekend.
Head coach Rhonda Revelle said Sunday was the first opportunity she had to truly process what the team has accomplished during its postseason run.
“There’s been just so many things along the way that we haven’t even had a time to pause and go, that was really an important moment,” Revelle said.
Revelle said she finally allowed herself time to reflect on Nebraska returning to Oklahoma City.
“I did let myself have about an hour this morning just to play some good music and just feel it all,” Revelle said. “And it was pretty overwhelming.”
Nebraska will open the Women’s College World Series against No. 5 Arkansas as the Huskers continue their pursuit of a national championship.
Revelle said the Huskers are preparing for the unique atmosphere that comes with playing on softball’s biggest stage.
“I want them to be able to take it all in and feel it and have that moment where it’s a little bit overwhelming, and then we’re back,” Revelle said. “We’re back to us.”
She also expects a competitive matchup against Arkansas.
“I look at our teams on paper, and you just take away the names,” Revelle said. “Numbers-wise, we match up really similarly.”
The WCWS is scheduled for May 28 through June 5 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
Nebraska’s opening-round matchup against Arkansas is set for Thursday, May 28 at 8:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
