Frasers Hospitality has announced the soft opening of Capri by Fraser, Penang, marking the lifestyle hospitality brand’s debut in the Malaysian island destination.

Located on Jalan Magazine near George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the new hotel combines heritage architecture, contemporary design and social living concepts aimed at modern independent travellers.

New Lifestyle Hotel Opens In George Town

The 22-storey property features 248 guestrooms and serviced residences across seven accommodation categories, including studio rooms and one-bedroom residences with fully equipped kitchenettes.

The hotel is positioned within walking distance of George Town’s historic district, one of Southeast Asia’s most culturally significant urban destinations.

Rooms include modern features such as IPTV with Google Cast, digital concierge access and in-room drip coffee experiences.

Select room categories also include bathtubs and separate living and dining areas.

Social Spaces Designed For Modern Travellers

At the centre of the property is The Den, Capri by Fraser’s signature social hub designed for check-ins, informal gatherings and casual dining.

The hotel’s Grab & Go café concept is operated in partnership with Penang-based Norm Micro Roastery and serves pastries, sandwiches, artisanal coffee and evening beverages.

Additional facilities include Spin & Play, a combined self-service laundrette and games room designed to transform practical amenities into social spaces.

Pet-Friendly Facilities And Wellness Features

Capri by Fraser, Penang also includes a sheltered swimming pool, jacuzzi, gymnasium, yoga room and EV charging stations.

The property is pet-friendly and offers dedicated services and partnerships for guests travelling with animals, including grooming and transport support.

Flexible event and meeting spaces are also available for business and bleisure travellers visiting Penang.

Hotel Combines Heritage And Contemporary Design

The development incorporates a preserved heritage shophouse along Jalan Magazine connected to a newly constructed tower.

Kuala Lumpur-based architect and curator Lian Kian Lek was appointed to oversee the artistic and cultural integration of the heritage and modern elements throughout the hotel.

The property’s art collection includes commissioned works from six artists inspired by Penang’s architecture, culture, food and local communities.

Norm Expands Culinary Presence Inside Hotel

The hotel’s food and beverage offering is anchored by local hospitality group Norm, known for venues including Norm Café, Noct cocktail bar and Peninsula House.

Norm also operates Palm House Restaurant and Bar within the hotel, positioning the property as both a hospitality destination and a social venue for locals and visitors.

The opening follows Frasers Hospitality’s regional “Capri by Fraser Takes Flight” campaign, which promoted the Penang launch across Southeast Asia and Australia.
