Three democratic candidates in the race to be Maine's next governor reiterated their support for each other at a press conference Tuesday in an effort to consolidate votes against frontrunner Nirav Shah.
Troy Jackson, Shenna Bellows and Hannah Pingree share previous experience in the state legislature. But Shah has been using his lack of lawmaking experience as a campaign point saying he would challenge the status quo.
At a joint press conference in Portland, Pingree said Mainers should vote for candidates with voting records to show where they stand on issues, rather than a political newcomer.
"I think we're the three people in this race who have voted time and time again on behalf of Maine people, on behalf of working people, on behalf of universal health care, on behalf of the environment, on behalf of more housing for Maine people," Pingree said. "I think you can trust the three of us to get the job done"
Shah was at a campaign event in Freeport Tuesday where he told reporters his campaign offers "a fresh look at solving problems.”
While Shah is the current frontrunner, the race is still fluid.
Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Graham Platner also attended the joint press conference Tuesday in Portland and said he'd rank Jackson first followed by Pingree and Bellows.
All three said they would support the winning Democratic nominee.
