The Cotter Ramblers opened postseason play against the Pine Island Panthers in the MSHSL Section 1AA baseball quarterfinals, with the winner moving on to the section semifinals and the loser dropping into the elimination bracket.

Cotter entered the day as the top seed in the section with a 21-3 record, but the Panthers kept things tight early. The game was scoreless through two innings before Pine Island broke through in the top of the third. The Panthers loaded the bases and scored the first run of the game on a hit by pitch, then added another on a single to right field to take a 2-0 lead.

The Ramblers responded in the bottom of the inning. With runners on, Dane Guzzo lined a single to right to drive in a run and pull Cotter within one. Later in the frame, KJ Kreidermacher lifted a sacrifice fly to right to bring home the tying run and make it 2-2.

The game stayed even into the late innings until Cotter found the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Lewi Shira delivered an RBI single to give the Ramblers a 3-2 lead.

Cotter made that advantage stand, finishing the game with a 1-2-3 seventh inning to secure the 3-2 win and advance in the bracket.

The Ramblers will face Lake City in the Section 1AA semifinal on Saturday, May 20, in Stewartville.
