I have kept my old Xwitter account for a couple of reasons: 1) I don't want anyone else to grab it, and 2) to keep an eye on the various bots and critters that populate that particular landfill, and to heckle various elected officials who choose to launch their bullshit from that platform. (New shebeen favorite Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas is a very large fish in that very small barrel.) However, lately, Elon's Folly has become a valuable resource in showing the less public effect of the administration's campaign to erase the history of the January 6 insurrection and the violence thereof.
There have been loud, institutional efforts in this regard as well. It began with the president instantly pardoning all the rioters only days after his being inaugurated for a second time. Lately, we've had the establishment of the Vandals Relief Act, and, over the weekend, the revelation that the Department of Justice has been quietly purging its files of all press material relating to the crimes of that dark afternoon. From Time:
The deletions include press releases documenting criminal charges, guilty pleas, convictions, and sentencing tied to the Jan. 6 attack, which saw supporters of President Donald Trump storm the Capitol in an effort to block the certification of his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
After a journalist noted on X last week that the Justice Department appeared to be “quietly” deleting the releases, the department’s rapid response account publicly confirmed over the weekend that they had been scrubbed from its website—but stated that there was “nothing ‘quiet’ about it.” “We are proud to reverse the DOJ’s weaponization under the Biden administration,” the department wrote. “We will do everything in our power to make whole those who were persecuted for political purposes. This includes stripping DOJ’s website of partisan propaganda.”
Last week, Senator Tommy Tuberville, soon to be only Alabama's problem if he's that state's next governor, gave a speech on the floor of the Senate in which he appeared to have zoomed in from whatever alternative universe he'd come to look upon as home.
Let's be clear about what happened that day. Democrats in the deep state hate Donald Trump so much that they helped orchestrate a coup against our government. It's been looked at, vilified , and the information that we found today was just amazing. It first started with the tampering of the 2020 election results. ... As a result, great American patriots gathered in Washington to peacefully protest the tampering of the 2020 election results. When the leader of the Democratic party at the time, Nancy Pelosi, and the Deep State learned of Trump supporters coming to Washington, D.C. ... they got an idea. Now, again, this has all been proven. They decided to infiltrate the crowd with Antifa and intelligence community members to stir up trouble.
And so on.
And this was a Yew-nited States Senator.
Not to be outshone by a goober in the Senate, the White House put together its own history of the events, and it is as untethered from reality as one might expect.
After law enforcement clears the Capitol, Congress reconvenes late that night and certifies Joe Biden’s electoral votes—votes from battleground states marred by massive mail-in ballot fraud, hidden suitcases of ballots, exploding water pipes, voting machine irregularities, and unprecedented pandemic-era rule changes that bypassed state legislatures. 2020 is considered the greatest election theft in U.S. history, with widespread fraud deliberately ignored by courts, officials and the media.
Speaker Pelosi's hand-picked January 6 Select Committee, stacked with anti-Trump Democrats and two RINOs (Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger), spent over 3 years and nearly $20 million in taxpayer funds on a propaganda spectacle to demonize President Trump and his supporters. They coached witnesses like Cassidy Hutchinson—leading to calls for perjury and witness tampering investigations against them—while withholding exculpatory evidence, deleting encrypted files, and ignoring security failures.
Believe this. The heroism of the January 6 criminals is now the new Republican orthodoxy on the events of January 6. It has become bone-deep certain for the MAGA base. On Xwitter, on Memorial Day, the platform was thick with former January 6 defendants describing their personal martyrdoms. Tributes to Ashli Babbitt crowded in on tributes to the veterans of Guadalcanal and Omaha Beach. And Republicans congresscritters, like Tuberville, who ran and hid from these victimized patriots on January 6, are now their staunchest champions five years later.
They can't all lose in the fall.
