Student-athletes, coaches and South Texas legends were honored during the Coastal Bend Sports Hall of Fame and Awards Show.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — South Texas sports history and hometown pride took center stage during the annual Coastal Bend Sports Hall of Fame and Awards Show hosted by the Visit Corpus Christi Sports Commission.
The event celebrated the accomplishments of student-athletes and coaches from across the Coastal Bend while also honoring local sports legends whose impact continues to be felt generations later.
Among this year’s Hall of Fame inductees was Stu Lenox Clarkson, a former Texas A&I Kingsville football player who later played professionally for the Chicago Bears. Although Clarkson found success on the national stage, his family says he never forgot his Corpus Christi roots.
“It’s an emotional night of course because my father’s history of South Texas has always been part of our own story and our entire family has been very proud to be from this area,” said Scott Clarkson, son of Stu Clarkson. “It’s quite an honor to be here and it’s wonderful that he’s being remembered even after 67 years after his passing.”
Scott Clarkson also thanked the community for continuing to honor his father’s legacy through the Hall of Fame recognition.
The evening also highlighted the next generation of Coastal Bend athletes, recognizing standout high school student-athletes for their achievements both on the field and in the classroom.
According to the Visit Corpus Christi Sports Commission, the student-athletes honored this year stood out not only for athletic success, but also for their leadership, dedication and character throughout the season.
Our very own Ryan Hopper served as the emcee for the celebration.
