Marsh tour
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Tylor Bell-Rogers at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy incredible views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails and a great diversity of birdlife.
Tour the marsh
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.
Everyone will meet leader Ren Bunce at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk which takes place rain or shine. Bunch will introduce people to the history of the area and Arcata’s wastewater treatment plant, plus identify plants and birds seen along the way. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Nature journals
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will offer its free monthly session “Nature Journaling at the Marsh” with naturalist Lynn Jones on Sunday.
No pre-registration required, though sessions are limited to first 10 people to show up at the Marsh Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center at 10 a.m. for this 90-minute session.
All ages are welcome, as long as participants are able to concentrate quietly for an extended period of time. FOAM provides clipboards and colored pencils; participants need to bring paper and a writing implement to jot notes. A pad to sit on or a folding chair is recommended; binoculars and guidebooks are optional.
Breakfast and books
A pancake breakfast will be served Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Trinidad School.
The menu includes pancakes, eggs and a choice of ham or sausage, or biscuits and gravy and eggs. Beverages are also included. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
A book sale will take place during the breakfast. Children’s books are 25 cents, paperbacks are 50 cents and hardbacks are $1. Proceeds will benefit community, youth and school projects.
Dance party
A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.
Play bingo
Bingo is played every Tuesday at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka.
The public is welcome and the snack bar is open.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Early bird games begin at 6 p.m. Regular games start at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds go back into the community.
Rose show
On June 14 from 1 to 4 p.m., the Humboldt Rose Society will hold its 57th annual rose show at the Redwood Acres in the Home Economics Building, 3750 Harris St., Eureka.
Everyone is encouraged to enter roses and arrangements in the show and share their rose photographs. It’s free to enter and monetary prizes are awarded. Also, rose experts will be on hand to identify roses as needed.

Rose photography entries will be accepted on June 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Roses, photography and floral arrangements will also be accepted on June 14 from 8 to 10 a.m.
The show is free to the public. Raffles will be held as well.
Grange pancakes
A pancake breakfast will be held June 7 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Freshwater Grange, 49 Grange Road, Freshwater.
The menu will include buttermilk or whole-grain pancakes, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, apple compote, orange juice, tea and French roast coffee. Quilts by Kathy Springmeir will be on display in the grange hall.
