The Winona Fiddlers will be performing in concert on Sunday, May 31, at 2 p.m. in Grace Hall at Central Lutheran Church. The cost is $5 at the door. All are welcome to attend.
The Winona Fiddlers is a group of string student musicians who meet weekly and work on traditional fiddle music from around the world. The group is multi-age, and they mostly learn by rote. Betsy Neil is their instructor and is in her 26th year teaching this class. The first fiddle group she started was in 1995 while she was teaching in the string program in the School District of La Crosse.
The Fiddlers will be accompanied by a few guest musicians, including Maureen Mullen, on guitar, and Tanner Brethorst, on clawhammer banjo. Tom Kendrick will perform traditional Appalachian clogging on a couple tunes with the Fiddlers. He was a professional dancer with the nationally touring clogging group, Rhythm and Shoes, which came out of Bloomington, Ind.
