Plant yourself in a good book this summer with Naperville Public Library’s 50-Day Summer Reading Challenge. From June 1 to Aug. 15, readers of all ages are encouraged to dig into delicious reads with this year’s program, “Plant a Seed, Read!”

The challenge is open to readers of all ages, even if you don’t have a library card. The goal is to read a little each day for 50 days. The days don’t have to be in a row, and you get to decide how you want to read. Maybe it’s one book a day, a few pages before bed or listening to an audiobook on your family road trip.

Reading every day builds a powerful habit that benefits people of all ages. It’s a great way to strengthen your mind, expand your knowledge, spark curiosity and build confidence in both writing and communication.

SOW SEEDS, REAP REWARDS

After 10 days of reading, participants will complete Level 1 and earn a prize. Keep reading to reach 25 days for a second prize, then complete 50 days to finish Level 3 and earn a brand new book to add to your library.

Children’s Level 1 and Level 2 prizes will be in their Summer Reading Kit, which can be picked up at any Naperville Public Library location when signing up for the program. Children’s Level 3 prizes will be available starting July 20.

Teens and adults can pick up their Level 1, 2 and 3 prizes at the Adult and Teen Services desks throughout the summer. Anyone who completes the 50-day Summer Reading Challenge will also be entered into our grand prize drawing.

Stop by your nearest Naperville library building or register online www.naperville-lib.org/summer to start your summer reading adventure on June 1.

DIG INTO SPECIAL PROGRAMS

We have a great lineup of special storytimes and programs planned for families to enjoy all summer long.

To get things started, sing and dance with a Summer Kickoff Concert with Jim Gill. Known for songs like “Hands Are for Clapping,” “Jumping and Counting” and “Silly Dance Contest,” Jim’s music is sure to have the whole family on their feet. Head over to the Wagner Family Pavilion near 95th Street Library at 6 p.m. Friday, June 5, for the outdoor concert.

Check out our online calendar for even more fun, including a pretend picnic with author Jory John’s foodie friends, fruit-inspired crafts and plenty of outdoor storytimes this summer. And while you’re at the library, explore the bookstacks and join the hunt for Bigfoot. We’ve heard he’s been hiding around in the Children’s Department waiting to be found.
