Hilltoppers erase early deficit to defeat Altoona in walk-off fashion | Sports

An error by the Railroaders in the bottom of the seventh would allow the game-winning run to score and Onalaska would be victorious 8-7.

Altoona jumped out to a 4-0 lead through just two innings of play but the Hilltoppers would keep their composure and plate five runs in the third inning to take the lead.

The teams traded runs for multiple half innings to keep the game tight but Onalaska scored two in the bottom of the seventh to win the nonconference matchup.

Tyler Kowal went 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored, meanwhile older brother Ian Kowal went 2-4 with one run scored. Carson Zinnecker and Carter DeLong each had two RBI’s.

Jagger Banasik went four innings to start the game for the home side allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Ian Kowal got the win as he came in relief and allowed just two runs in three innings of work with three punchouts.

Onalaska moves to 11-9 overall with the win and they’ll next take on Prairie du Chien at home on Tuesday at 4:30.
