BOZEMAN, Mont. — Bozeman Health is getting national recognition after earning a hospital safety grade from a leading watchdog group.
The Leapfrog Group recognized Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center as one of the safest hospitals in the country.
Crystal Skinner, system director of quality and patient safety and patient experience, says Bozeman Health, compared to other hospitals in the state, improved in all surgical site areas.
“We had an improvement in all of our hospital-acquired infection rates compared to others in the state. And then our post-op complications, such as a surgical site infection, both have all improved as well,” said Skinner.
Bozeman Health prides itself on prioritizing quality care throughout the 11 counties it serves in southwest Montana. Skinner says this national recognition helps highlight those ongoing efforts.
“It’s an ongoing continuous improvement, and all of our measures continue to improve over the years, and we in comparison to other organizations within Montana have achieved a really high level of care,” said Skinner.
To earn a grade A, hospitals must show strong systems and protocols designed to prevent harm before it happens.
We asked Skinner what patients or families should look at when deciding where to seek medical care.
“I would recommend looking at safety grades and see how they’re doing in their infection rates, how they care for their patients,” said Skinner.
