Sussex Help Fund receives $15K from 100 Women Who Care | Lifestyle

On May 13, members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware (100WWCSD) gathered at the Lewes Public Library to present an award of $15,570 to the Sussex Help Fund.

Sussex Help is a volunteer-driven effort to support Sussex County immigrant families who are being adversely impacted by the current federal administration. Those affected are women with young children.

Sussex Help’s mission is to meet basic subsistence needs (food, diapers, baby formula), transportation to medical appointments or grocery shopping, and assistance with rent and utilities expenses. Sussex Help provides coaching and guidance to help families regain their independence, and coordinates with Delaware Volunteer Legal Services (DVLS) to offer legal protection and defense support.

The organization includes three sub-groups that focus on specific aspects of support from 100 WWCSD: Direct Support Group, Legislative Support Group and Legal Assistance Group. The Sussex Help Fund is established at the Greater Lewes Foundation, a non-profit that enables volunteer and philanthropic groups to receive tax-deductible donations with transparent reporting and an internet link for one-time or recurring donations.

All donations are used to fulfill funding requests from the Direct Support Group. Funds are used strictly for rent, utilities and limited, approved emergency needs of the affected community, and all funds go directly to affected families’ expenses.

Now numbering more than 100 women and aiming for 200, 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware is inviting new women who care to join the group, attend the quarterly luncheon meetings, learn about the important work being done by non-profits in our Southern Delaware communities, nominate and pitch their favorites and be a part of supporting their work.
