Gators, Knights face uphill climb in softball Super Regionals

Florida, UCF face win-or-go-home games today.

Both Florida and UCF must battle back in the NCAA softball Super Regionals after losing the opening games of their series.

Florida dropped a 10-8 decision to Texas Tech on a go-ahead homerun in the top of the seventh inning from former Gator Mia Williams. The two teams combined for seven homeruns in the game. Texas Tech jumped out to a 7-1 run lead before Texas clawed back to tie the game at eight in the bottom of the sixth.

The Super Regionals are a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Florida faces a win-or-go-home game today (12:30 p.m. ET, ABC) against the Red Raiders.

Meanwhile, UCF will face UCLA tonight (10 p.m. ET, ESPN) in Los Angeles with the season on the line after the Bruins blitzed the Knights 9-1 in five innings last night. UCLA’s Rylee Slimp hit a walk-off, three-run home run to run-rule UCF in game one of the series.

The Knights finished the season in fourth place in the Big 12 standings but survived the regionals in Tallahassee, defeating nationally seeded Florida State in the deciding game, 4-2. This is the second time in program history that the Knights have advanced to the Super Regional. The first time came in 2022.
