ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Roanoke’s Festival in the Park gets under way Friday, marking the unofficial start to summer. It runs through Sunday at Elmwood Park, featuring live music, local artists, food and family activities. Bands performing include Gypsy Nix, Gasoline Alley and 1964 The Tribute. Festival in the Park is a rain or shine event.

Jazz and tribute concerts
Ravi Coltrane performs Friday night at 8 at the Jefferson Center. The son of John Coltrane is a saxophonist, composer and band leader. Tickets start at $41.

“MJ: The Illusion” takes place Friday night at 7 at the Historic Academy Theatre in Lynchburg. The concert features the music, performances and visuals of Michael Jackson. Tickets start at $45.

Memorial Day tribute
The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford hosts its annual “Honoring the Fallen” on Monday. The event begins at 11 a.m. Admission to the memorial is free until noon.
