GreenRoots is an environmental justice organization in Chelsea, MA dedicated to enhancing the urban environment and public health in Chelsea and East Boston.
As a Health Equity Intern, my work was primarily focused on local air quality data sharing methods and data collection for the C-HEAT project addressing urban extreme heat exposure. I also was involved in our tree keeping program to improve Chelsea’s tree canopy and increasing access to local public transportation.
Most of my academic background has been in biology, and this internship allowed me to explore the intersection between science and community engagement along with directly contributing to impactful community work. It was fulfilling connecting with community members from my hometown and learning from the different program areas at GreenRoots such as climate justice and food justice.
